Puka Beach in Boracay Island
Motion, music, and movement blanket the busy White Beach of Boracay. From end to end, White Beach Path is bustling with restaurants, food stalls, stores, shops, night caps and hotels – it is as busy as the streets of Makati on a working week. Good thing for those seeking a more laid back side of the island, there is Puka Beach.
On the northern end of the most popular beach destination in the country is an 800 meter stretch of white sand and puka shells, thus, being called Puka Beach. Shells scattered all over the beach vary in size, shape, and color. These are perfect for making necklaces, bracelets, house ornaments, and many handicrafts which are conveniently sold in souvenir shops in Puka Beach.
Puka Beach’s water is comparably clear to White Beach’s water. Different hues of blue, green, and cyan emphasized the cleanliness of the sea surrounding the island. The sand may be is not as powdery and as white but its similarly bare feet friendly as you walk in it.

The boys decided to spend the whole afternoon in Puka Beach, so after having lunch, we brought food and drinks and took 15 minute tricycle ride to the tranquil side of the island. The girls, on the other hand, spent their time in a bar in White Beach.
In Puka Beach, there are huts situated atop the rocks which are open for anybody’s use with proper care, of course. However, these temporary shelters are in bad condition requiring repairs and cleaning. Thank you to irresponsible users and visitors who trash their borrowed structures. The least we can do in return for the free use is leave it the way it was after staying there. The big group of 21 medium and heavy built boys couldn’t be handled by the unstable structure so we looked for a shade and began our boy’s “picnic” day out. I took a short walk farther west and saw coconuts standing tall and facing the beach. It also looks a good resting spot in Puka Beach since it seems more isolated and the tall trees provide a cooler shade.

Puka Beach is a good alternative for if you want to take a break from the huge crowd in White Beach. If White Beach’s loud speakers with heart pounding bass sets the groove, Puka Beach’s calm crashing waves and the gentle brushing of trees brings the authentic island vibe. Puka Beach guarantees a serene environment that will complete your Boracay experience.

Now, here are some fast facts that may help you on the trip:
1. Tricycle from D’ Mall to Puka Beach cost P30.o0 per person, and there were 5 of us inside the tricycle. There is a tricycle terminal in Puka Beach which will take you back to the main beach.
2. No entrance fee in Puka Beach.
3. There are three (3) restaurants in Puka Beach but I think its quite pricey for a cheap traveler. But if you have the bucks, you might want to try them. A friend told me that they serve fresh seafood. They have good food at Tesebel’s, thank you because it was shouldered by a good friend and I don’t have any idea about the price. Best way is to bring your own baon in Puka.
