Antipolo Church Our lady of peace and good voyage

Tourist, devotees and locals from different status of society frequent the Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage Parish, more commonly known as Antipolo Church. Travelers visit the church praying to the statue for guidance on their journeys both abroad or locally. Back in the early Spanish Colonial era, the statue made eight voyages from Mexico to Manila, sailing the Pacific aboard the galleons, thus, being called the “Patroness of the Galleons”.

The Parish Church of Antipolo also offer blessing of the newly purchased vehicles. Believed to provide guidance, the vehicles are blessed so that the image would look over its passengers and avoid accidents.

During the Holy Week, the capital of the province becomes a hub of activity for families, friends, and different organizations practicing their faith. People from different places in the country travel to Antipolo Church, on foot. The tradition is called “Alay Lakad”.

The statue of Nuestra Senora De La Paz Y Buen Viaje played a major role in the lives of the Christian community and has influenced Filipinos in their way of traveling and in tradition.

Now, here are some fast facts that may help you on your trip:

1. From Cubao, there are two ways of going to Antipolo Church. The Antipolo Simbahan Sumulong jeep passes through Marcos Highway to Sumulong Highway to Antipolo. The Antipolo Simbahan Junction, on the other hand, takes Marcos Highway but turns left in Sta. Lucia towards Cainta, Junction then takes Ortigas Extension.

From Shaw Boulevard, jeepneys plies the Ortigas Extension Road all the way to Taytay, then ascends to Antipolo.

2. Tricycles are te best mode of transportation in Antipolo’s town proper due to its tight streets and one way roads.

3. There are lots of food stalls, also selling food souvenirs,  and fast food joints within the proximity of the Church.
